There are two main types of mites that affect rabbits. Fur mites and Ear mites. These are extremely irritating for the rabbits and getting rid if mites can be hectic sometimes.

You may have noticed your rabbits scratching itself vigorously or shaking its head back and forth. These are nothing but mites. If not treated well, these might reach to other parts of your rabbit and infect. These should be treated as soon as you spot them. This article is all about Home Remedies for getting rid of fur mites on pet rabbits. Hope this helps!

However, before starting I would like to recommend the vet if the condition is no so good.

Why do rabbits get mites?

rabbits get mites for they wander free in the bushes and sand. They get mostly infected when getting into contact with other infected rabbits.

What are the different types of mites?

The different types of mites include fur mites and ear mites as I have already mentioned.

Remedies

1.TEA TREE OIL

this step is primary. This would alleviate the itching but might not get rid of the motes. But it is recommended to use. 20 drops of Tea tree oil mixed with 1–1/2 cup of water would be enough. Apply it over the affected areas.

2. GARLIC

The rabbits do not find this appealing but, this can reduce the infections. It helps to get rid of all the parasites along with mites. Feed it raw or roasted.

3.PUMPKIN

The seeds and the pulp extract, repel the mites. Rabbits like them and would eat readily.

4.APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

A natural tonic and easily available at home. It helps to clear and if used for ears, it removes the browny waxy layer as well. A few tablespoons mixed with a bottle of water does the job.

5. COCONUT OIL

Again is a good option for stopping the itching. It would only provide temporary relief. You should opt for options to get rid of mites permanently.

6. PETROLEUM JELLY

for temporary control and relief use petroleum jelly. it soothes and insulates the affected area, gradually repairing the scabs.

Preventions

Isolate the infected rabbit as soon as you spot. This would prevent it from spreading.

Clean the surrounding of the infective rabbit thoroughly.

No need for removing scabs it has developed. With proper treatment, the scabs will disappear.
